Repeater off-air. Stay tuned!
Blackskye Community Radio, Inc. is a nonprofit radio association formed in 2025 devoted to providing alternative communication systems for public use in Waynesboro, PA, and its surrounding communities. During times of disaster, such as civil emergencies including severe weather events, and information blackouts caused by power grid, internet, and cellular network failures, having the means to communicate is paramount for staying informed and potentially life-saving.
BSCRA is not a typical “ham radio club” that holds monthly meetings, member breakfasts, or organizes regular in-person activities. We took a different approach. Our model is entirely on-air and online, focusing on learning and communication needs of the present day with a fresh perspective. To be truly proficient, one should be well-versed in various radio technologies. Therefore, long-term planning necessitates BSCRA’s involvement in GMRS, amateur radio, radio mesh networks, and a digital LMR network. We want to provide community members with diverse radio communication options, allowing them to choose the system that best suits their needs and interests.
To ensure that community members can stay connected with friends, family, and other members of the community when public communication infrastructure is unavailable.
To promote radio technology as a hobby.
Improve individual radio communication skills through enablement and practice.
Promote the importance of emergency preparedness.
To maintain a respectful and inclusive association.
BSCRA is a Commonwealth of Pennsylvania registered charitable organization.
Hi, I'm Derek! President of Blackskye Community Radio Association. Thank you for being here.
I’m a lifelong resident of Waynesboro, PA and love the community I grew up in. I firmly believe that establishing readily accessible and resilient alternative communication systems is crucial in helping ensure safe communities.
My communications and emergency preparedness experience comes from a career in emergency services spanning three decades, and from time spent as an amateur (Ham) radio operator. Currently, I work as a paramedic in the Waynesboro and Chambersburg areas. My aspiration is that Blackskye Community Radio Association evolves into a sizable, beneficial, and enjoyable community for all.
I hope to hear you on the air!
