Blackskye Community Radio Association, Inc (BSCRA) is a non-profit association started in 2025 to provide access to alternative communication systems to aid in emergency preparedness, response, and hazard mitigation at the community level, and to promote the importance of citizen emergency preparedness in Waynesboro, PA and surrounding communities. BSCRA encourages routine, daily use of our communication systems.
Mission
Promote and facilitate the use of alternative communication systems in Waynesboro, PA and surrounding communities. Communication systems planning includes, but not limited to, General Mobile Radio Service, Amateur Radio, and Meshtastic.
Promote the importance of individual emergency preparedness planning.
Establish a base of community members who share a common interest in radio communication and emergency preparedness.
Improve individual radio communication skills through enablement and practice.
To maintain a respectful and inclusive association.
A Personal Note
Hi, I'm Derek! President of Blackskye Community Radio Association, Inc. Thank you for being here.
I’m a lifelong resident of Waynesboro, PA and love the community I grew up in. I firmly believe that establishing readily accessible and resilient alternative communication systems is crucial in helping ensure safe communities.
My emergency communications and preparedness experience comes from a career in emergency services spanning three decades, and from time spent as an amateur (HAM) radio operator. Currently, I work as a paramedic in the Waynesboro and Chambersburg areas. My aspiration is that Blackskye Community Radio Association, Inc. evolves into a sizable, beneficial, and enjoyable community for all.
